Alice A. Hanawalt

DOYLESTOWN – Alice A. Hanawalt, age 89, passed away on March 8, 2024.

Born on March 31, 1934 in Doylestown to the late Louis and Eleanor (Henley) Whitman, Alice graduated from Doylestown High School and was a life resident of Doylestown. In September of 1955, she married the love of her life, James Hanawalt. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was an avid Cleveland sports fan and loved family camping trips. She retired from Chippewa Local Schools in 1996 working as a secretary at Hazel Harvey Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Rubber City Model A Club. 

She is reunited with her husband, James W. Hanawalt; infant son and daughter; granddaughter, Jessica Hanawalt; siblings, Helen (Bud) Bond, Mary (Walt) Berger, Jean (Dick) Johnston, Tom (Nancy) Whitman, Louis “Jake” Whitman; and brother-in-law, Joseph Koprivnik. Alice is survived by her children, Mark Hanawalt of Doylestown, Denise (Harry) Bindreiter of Akron, Keith (Deb) Hanawalt of Doylestown, and Kathy (Bruce) Raudabaugh of Eastlake; grandchildren, Nicci (Eric) Chojnacki, Meagan (Michael) Poole, Sarah Sebrell, Cory (Katy) Hanawalt, Chelsea (Ben) Walker, Brian (Whitney) Raudabaugh; 8 great-grandchildren; twin sister Amy (Nick) Isaac of Stow; sisters, Norma Koprivnik and Janet (Jim) Arvin of Doylestown; sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Whitman, Marie Bower; many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Arden Courts of Bath for their loving, compassionate care of Alice over the past 3 years. They are truly angels. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 161 W. Clinton St., Doylestown, OH, 44230 with Fr. Peter Morris, Celebrant. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, OH, 44230. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arden Courts of Bath, 171 N Cleveland Massillon Rd, Akron, OH 44333 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
